Species Profile: Wild Animals of Mintop

These are wild animals found on the planet Mintop.

Large saltwater fish found primarily on the islands Hackney and Interp, carpples are generally white with black spots, although males are often more homogenously black or white. They have fat lips and vacant, black dots for eyes, and males have short, thick horns that curve upwards. The fish are rather bulky, being somewhere around the size of an average bed, but are generally too peaceful to throw their weight around.

The fish were domesticated some thousands of years ago as a source of meat, being raised throughout Hackney, usually in artificial saltwater lakes, but sometimes in ocean pens. A large portion of the eastern shore of Interp is also dedicated to carpple farms. Later, an oil produced by carpples was extracted for use as a food additive, and some cleeple are researching into its use as a fuel source. Carpples are usually killed for the meat or oil or scales before their lives end, but those that aren’t tend to live for around 25 years.

Wild chickens can be found on the island Hackney. This is because chickens exist in all universes. These chickens are rarely farmed, but are still caught and sold for meat.

Large saltwater fish found primarily on the islands Hackney and Interp, herfs have thick, blubbery lips and black, vacant eyes that never seem to focus quite right. They’re somewhat thin and streamlined, with strong, sturdy necks that stick up and out of the water covered with long, flowing manes that repel water. The backs are also strong and sturdy, and rise rather high out of the water. Herfs have an average lifespan of 25 years.

Herfs were domesticated thousands of years ago as a means of transportation, with cleeple riding on them across the sea to islands or using them to tow boats. They’re usually retired after age 20, though some remain strong enough to tow small boats to age 25 and even beyond. Aside from travel, herf scales have also been harvested for use in clothing and armor. Although herfs are used for riding, they aren’t very disgraceful, being described in literature “as graceful as dancing drunk at midnight.”

Loogels are plump birds covered in white plumage. While females have short, gray necks, males have necks three times the length of their bodies covered in rings of rainbow colors. Their beaks are thick and orange, and their short, orange legs are often hidden by the plump torsos. The eyes are big, round, and somewhat vacant. Despite a wingspan twice the body’s length, loogels aren’t the best of fliers. They don’t usually fly too far from Interp, but they can rest on the water if need be.

When mating season comes around, loogels usually gather around rocky beach of northern Interp. Males stretch out their necks to show off the loops and try to attract a mate, and can often be seen nuzzling females and holding their long necks around them. Newborns learn to fly around a few months and leave their parents about a month later. By the third year males’ necks begin to grow extensively, and by the fifth year they have a full neck of colorful loops and are ready to mate. Average lifespan is about 20 years, although they have been known to live past 30 in captivity.

Fat, long fish shaped slightly like couches. Lummins have shiny, gray-blue skin, slightly puckered mouths, and big, round, blue eyes. They have a short dorsal fin, a short, wide tail fin, and the pelvic fins are fat. They have an ability beyond what would be expected for such a fat creature.

They can often be seen leaping out of the water, and are considered to be a carefree and peaceful animal. They can inhale a large amount of air to expand their bodies, and if in danger they can use this to intimidate the danger. If this fails to work, they blow out the air with such force that they quickly flee and are even able to sail into the air with this maneuver. The average lifespan for a lummin is about 40 years.

Various types of snakes can be found on Mintop. One snake is the cylacra, a small snake living in Reptibia Rainforest with a wide, flat head in the shape of a disc. They can spit out poison to wound their prey, but against bigger creatures it doesn’t do much beyond a burning sensation, and they tend to avoid things bigger than them.
