New! Wandering Fortunes Chapter 20: To the Ends of Zhop

Here we are, chapter 20 of Wandering Fortunes, the longest chapter in the novel so far and the end of part 1! Alden and his friends have to flee Zhop from the Zhopian Guard. They get what family they can and make a great escape–or at least an adequate escape–well, I certainly hope it’s adequate. With the way things look, they might need a leg up–but the Zhopian Guard might even shoot that leg off! The jerks. I don’t even know if they’ll make it…

Species Profile: Kudeso

The last Wandering Fortunes chapter featured a kudeso as a major character, so I figured let’s take a look at this speed freak bird species. Here’s the profile page for kudesos, which I think just about wraps up all the major Zhop species. There may be a few more here and there.

Plans have to be made, and Top’s a wild card–which might work in their favor.

Got a brand-new chapter up today, and it’s the beginning of the end for our protagonists. Can’t say heroes, what have they done that’s heroic, anyway? Alden has a job with fellow Zhopian Guard members to take out a group of conspirators, but it’s not what he expects at all…

This is basically the chapter I refer to as “the one where things start to go to hex”. “and it’s a bad hex”. “like, a hellish hex even”.

In terms of editing this book, last week I finished editing chapter 20 which ends the first act of the book (as you can see by the Table of Contents… well, I think you can figure it out.) I’m on my way with this thing! Maybe someday I’ll be so far ahead in editing that I won’t be always uploading chapters that already have stuff I need to edit because of things I’ve done later. But that’s the nature of the free in-progress serial story!

Wandering Fortunes Chapter 15: For a Friend’s Benefit is now up. It… it, uh…

Okay, I’m gonna level with you. This chapter is about sex work. There’s nothing explicit, but things are discussed. I actually went back and forth some on if I should include it, and this chapter was written much later than the rest. I also tried to treat the profession with as much respect as I could muster. I don’t know how I did on that, but feel free to tell me what you think and anything I can improve on that front because honestly this is about as far removed from my own experiences as possible, as someone probably asexual. But I tried to write based on what I’ve read people say about the work and with the assumption that it’s just a job and people probably shouldn’t actually freak out over it so much.

Now up: Wandering Fortunes Chapter 14: Top’s Tasty Turmoil

Chapter 14 of Wandering Fortunes is now available. Top, Alden, and Ropak start their first day in the Zhopian Guard, and Top causes a food fight. This is another one of those food-centric chapters, and to go with that the most important character in Homestuck nothing is introduced, Fridger the talking fridge.

It also happens to have some signs of “hey earlier chapters are gonna be edited more” because I don’t think phossers have been mentioned before but here it acts like they have. Phossers are related to horses, and young ones are, like horses, called ponies. Now you’ll understand the best joke.

Don’t forget, people who give to both my Patreon and my new Ko-fi get to read chapters ahead of time, along with other cool stuff like weekly update previews and signed copies of books. Yaaay! And I’m sure now that we’ve had a food fight chapter the rest of this story will be just as fun and whimsical!!

Wandering Fortunes Chapter 13: Testy Wills is up!

Chapter 13 of Wandering Fortunes is now up! Alden, Top, and Ropak continue to try to join the Zhopian Guard and have to run an obstacle course in the process. However, there’s more than just the course working as obstacles in their way. They’ll have to work together to get through it… or, perhaps not?? Perhaps there will be delicious cake, though.

Don’t forget about Darmenzi, though! The ebook released just a couple weeks ago, and there’s going to be more news about it soon! Keep watching for that.
